AT&T reportedly begins rolling out whole-home DVR feature, HD video on demand
User reports have been flooding into video tech news site Engadget HD, saying that AT&T is starting to roll out a few new goodies to those lucky enough to have access to U-Verse.
The most notable, certainly, is the addition of the long-awaited "whole home DVR" feature, allowing other receivers in the house to playback shows from the DVR. Also on the docket? High-definition video on demand programming and a weather-on-demand widget that is most likely meant to plug the hole left by no localized weather on The Weather Channel.
No word yet on where these features are being rolled out, as it appears by the email post on Engadget HD that it is a limited rollout at first. If you are among those seeing these new features, comment below and let us know!

It sounds like WHDVR is
It sounds like WHDVR is coming to Wisconsin just before the end of the year (Northeast Wis 12/27?). Unfortunately from what I was told and have seen on the internet, it sounds like it will not initially have full functionality and likely there will be more than one roll out phase for it's launch. From what I have heard it sounds like you will not be able to pause, rewind... live TV or schedule and deleted shows on the non-DVR TVs till a later date after the initial launch.
No localized weather on The
No localized weather on The Weather Channel? That sucks.
I noticed the weather
I noticed the weather channel not being localized but I can live without it. The rest of the experience I have had so far makes up for that.
I, too, wouldn't be
I, too, wouldn't be mortified with a lack of localized weather on The Weather Channel, as I typically go right to weather.com for anything I want to know anyways.
I can live without it. I
I can live without it. I would much rather have WBAY's 24/7 weather channel anyways.
Only place you can get
Only place you can get localized weather from the weather channel is Time Warner. You could always use their website anytime and type in your zip code though LOL http://www.weather.com. Also, since this is the fall all over u-verse bash time warner forum, who has encountered massive pixellation and frequent service outages with u-verse, because that is what u-verse is known for?
I don't notice any more
I don't notice any more pixellation on U-Verse than I do on Time Warner, really. I've noticed quite a bit on mine lately, when it works, that is. Switched HDTV channels have been terrible in the last couple weeks for some reason.
What frequent service outages are you refering to? I've only been aware of one, the nationwide one back last fall. I would think on average there are just as many service outages with cable or satellite as there would be with telcos. Not every situation is going to be the same neighborhood to neighborhood, city to city.
I can say that for me, I've
I can say that for me, I've had zero problems with pixellation with U-Verse. I have noticed some compression artifacts, but nothing much out of the ordinary. For me at least, I'd consider it to be as good or better than TWC. At least I can access all of the HD channels at anytime, rather than get a "This Channel is Not Available" message. My only issue I've had is with FSN-WI-HD, but we've all heard about that. So far, U-Verse has been more reliable for TV, and the internet speeds have been much more consistent for me than I had with TWC.
As far as localized weather
As far as localized weather goes, U-verse addresses it with the customizable U-Bar as part of the interactive features....you can set all your local info and then hit the 'Go Interactive' button to access customized weather, sports, and stock info...
I would agree with with Bradley as far as the 'pixellation' goes, - would agree with Bradly's assessment of everything else, for that matter.
I have had nothing but
I have had nothing but superior performance and quality from my U-verse. I have five TV's (1 HD), the 6mbs HSIA and the digital phone. Picture quality and channel change response time on my 20 year old SD RCA is incredible. Much better video library like having a Blockbuster in my home. Fifty channels of HD. 56 channels of sports for $10! New package bundle pricing will really make this fly! I was a Time Warner customer for 17 years and they could care less I left.......lastly whole home DVR by end of September in N.E. Wisconsin. Bank on it!! Oh....digital phone is way better too! Incredible features that make you work with you cell phone no matter who provider is. Check voice mail AND call history from work via your computer and give 20 people exclusive rights to locate you wherever you go.
