If you're a Dish Network subscriber, prepare to have a really, really good Monday.

According to a press release picked up via CNN, Dish Network will flip the switch on twenty -- yes, 20 -- new HD networks starting Monday, May 12th.  Apparently the rumors of Dish Network's competitive demise after that failed satellite launch earlier this spring were greatly exagerrated.  According to the release, Dish plans to add the following channels:

  • ABC Family HD
  • Biography HD
  • Bravo HD
  • Cartoon HD
  • Cinemax HD West
  • Cinemax 5 Star
  • CNBC HD
  • CNN HD
  • Disney HD East
  • ESPNews HD
  • Hallmark Movie Channel HD
  • MGM HD
  • Sci Fi HD
  • Smithsonian HD
  • Tennis Channel HD
  • Toon Disney HD
  • Travel Channel HD
  • USA HD
  • Weather Channel HD
  • World Fishing Network HD

They also launched a pair of regional sports channels that don't affect our area.  This is certainly an interesting development, pushing both satellite providers over 60 national HD channels available in the Fox Cities area.

CNBC in HD is awesome!

CNBC in HD is awesome! Thank you Dish Network. I'm so excited to see this finally happening after such a long wait and fighting the urges to move to DirecTV! Now if you can give me Headline News in HD and a couple more HD HBO channels, I'm set!!

I'm sorry, but it's very hard for me to tell whether "CNBC in HD is awesome" is a sarcastic quip or not. Are you being serious? If so, what do you like about it?

From what I heard they added

From what I heard they added channels but dropped 10 Voom channels. So wouldn't the count be 48 HD channels on Dish vs 63 HD channels on DirecTV?

I still have all my Voom

I still have all my Voom channels....not that i really want them, but i still have them. Loving the new channels, especially ESPNews HD and Travel Channel HD. I would love to see ESPNU HD but I guess we can't have everything.

Wow...they have a 24 hour fishing channel. Now I've seen everything! :-)

It was just announced today

It was just announced today about the Voom channels and I'm working to revise the list and count.

I think they actually shed only 8 of the Voom channels. On the DishHD Essential and Ultimate packages, there are 5 Voom channels left, but in the DishHD (only HD) package, they list GamePlay and Family Room, which are Voom networks (but not Kung Fu, which is on the other packages).

I stand corrected.

I stand corrected. Apparently, today I (along with everyone else) don't have all the Voom networks anymore. Now lets get Comedy Central HD and ESPNU HD rollin!!!!

Is there even a Comedy

Is there even a Comedy Central HD yet? I haven't seen one on any carrier.

Not that I've heard.....but

Not that I've heard.....but it's gotta be coming sooner or later.
