FTA (Free To Air) satellite

I have a dish network satellite that the previous owners of my house left behind. I don't intend on paying for any kind of satellite package but was wondering if anyone has had any success with FTA setups. lyngsat.com seems to have a very large listing of channels but I haven't found anything that exciting. Also, I don't have a receiver (only the dish/lnb), so if you have any receiver recommendations please share.

A Dish Network LNB isn't

A Dish Network LNB isn't going to get you much in the way of FTA programming. Most of what's currently available via FTA satellite is foreign language programming and even then you need a Ku Band LNB and a larger dish mounted on a motor to get most of that. There are a few English language MyNetwork TV, CW and religious programming stations available via FTA too, but in my opinion it's not enough to make it worth the effort (10 years ago it was a different story).

If you change your mind and decide to pick up Dish Network, I'd suggest buying a reciever off of eBay (just make sure it's not a discontinued model) because with your own receiver and the Dish already installed, you should be able to pick up a month-to-month package instead of having to sign any long term contract.

I kind of figured as much..

I kind of figured as much.. Thanks for your reply and if I ever do get Dish Network (doubtful), I'll keep that in mind.
